How do I?

Import a text file created with a database system into SM-Marks Online?

If your database system is capable of exporting a text file that is either comma or tab delimited, the File|Import|Data file command will try to read the file and copy the student names and results, if any, into the markbook.

  1. Using your database system create a text file that includes the student names, and optionally any results.
  2. Choose the File|Import|Data file command.
  3. Click on the Browse (Choose File) button for the File 1 field and select the file to import.
  4. Click the Import Data button.
  5. Select the specific data you want to import.
  6. Click on the button to import the data.

Depending on the data being imported step 3 can be repeated to select up to 2 more files before doing step 3.

In the steps 5 and 6, depending on the data in the text file you may be creating markbooks, or adding information to the open markbook.

If the imported file has the information in a suitable arrangement, SM-Marks Online automatically handles the conversion of the data into a markbook. Browse the Importing section of the Help for more details on the types of files SM-Marks Online can import.
