How do I?

Produce a total from a weighted set of tasks?

While this calculation can be done with the Help|Calculation Assistant command, you can also do it using first principles. To make a weighted total this way a task must first be created and then a calculation must be attached to the new task.

  1. Choose the New|Task command.
  2. Enter the task name.
  3. Enter the task maximum.
  4. Click the Create Task button.
  5. Choose the Edit|Calculation.
  6. Select Weight in the Calculation list.
  7. Select a task from the Tasks list.
  8. Click the Include button.
  9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for each task that is to be part of the weighting.
  10. Click the Options button.
  11. Enter the weight for the first task.
  12. Repeat step 11 for each task.
  13. If necessary, change the Mean and S.D.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Click on the Save Changes button.

The new task now shows the weighted total of the selected tasks.

In step 13, if the markbook is set to standardise the results when doing a weighting you also have the option of turning on the Linear weighting option for this specific weighting.
