How do I?

Rollover a markbook for a new year?

At the start of a year you can do the following to rollover an existing markbook as the students enter a new year. The exact steps may vary depending on how you plan to use the original information in the new markbook.

  1. Use the New|Markbook copy command to make a copy of the markbook you want to rollover. Give the copied markbook the name you want for the new year.
  2. Open the original markbook and use the File|Archive command to put it into the archive. (The markbook in the archive still exists and can be opened, if necessary.)
  3. Open the copied markbook from step 1.
  4. Change the details in the Options|Set course and year command.
  5. Rename the classes. Refer to the Change the name of a class topic in the How do I section for more information about this step.
  6. Move students between classes with the Action|Move|Students command.
  7. Delete tasks that are not needed in the new markbook with the Action|Delete|Tasks command.

You now have a copy of the old markbook ready for the new year, while still keeping last years markbook for reference.

SM-Marks Online does not automatically rename the markbook or the classes because variations in the conventions used to name markbooks and classes makes it impossible to do this reliably in all cases.

  • A User Administrator can alternatively use the Copy markbooks for next year command to rollover markbooks in batches.
