Importing
Motorised Markbook files
Classes, students and results from the Motorised Markbook import into SM-Marks Online with the File|Import|Data file command. The file must first be made by opening the markbook in Motorised Markbook and then using the Export all as TAB file command to make a file like the following:
Markbook Plane Plane
12M1 3-unit Geom'tr Geom'tr
Miss De Meanour
63 R/21
STUDENT Ai-Won 33 15
FARTHING Penny 30 16
ROWAVE Mike 59 1
To import the markbook data, these three conditions should be satisfied.
- The name of the file must begin with MOTORISED to allow SM-Marks Online to correctly import the file. For example, some valid file names are motorised.txt, motorised-maths.txt or motorised8.txt.
- The file exported from Motorised Markbook does not include the "linked" information, so it is essential for columns that are linked in the markbook to have identical names (all three lines of the column name must be the same), so they can be matched when importing.
- For best results, the class and teacher names should be the first and second on screen lines in the Motorised Markbook. SM-Marks Online uses this information to label the classes in the created markbook.
Because Motorised Markbook files do not store the course name for each class, in the File|Import|Data file command, the first class from each course is shown, but when selected and the Create markbooks button is clicked all the related classes are put into the SM-Marks Online markbook.
Other issues to note when importing Motorised Markbook files are:
- The student and teacher names are only stored in a single field in Motorised Markbook and so may require editing once in the markbook.
- The file name of the created markbook will be based on the first class in the markbook and should be changed.
- While the columns and results are imported, the calculations are not included and so the calculations will need to be re-created in the new markbook after importing.
- By default, weighting calculations in SM-Marks Online use the same z-scores method used by the Motorised Markbook and so give the same results.
