How do I?

Set up the Report Definition?

The Report Definition is set in a similar way to old SM-Reports. If you follow steps for your current report templates, the same steps can be done in SM-Reports Online.

  1. Choose the Set Report Definition command.
  2. Select a year.
  3. Select a course.
  4. Click on the Edit button.
  5. Select the report template in the Template list.
  6. Turn on the fields that are required for the report template.
  7. If necessary, click on the drop-down button next to the field to set the properties of the field.
  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the course.
  9. Click on the Post button.
  10. Repeat steps 3 to 5 for each course in the year.
  11. Click on the OK button.

The properties of the fields are:

Max Len

Enter a number here to set the maximum length of the text that can be entered. Depending on the template and the font size you may need to adjust this number to ensure the allowed text can fit in the area on the report.

Range over class

Turn this on to make SM-Reports Online calculate ranges and averages across the students in each class, instead of over all the classes

Count distribution

Turn this on for the field that contains a grade (from A to E) that needs to be counted to produce a total or percent of each grade on the report.

Whole numbers

Turn this on and enter the Lower and Upper limit of whole number that is expected for the field. A whole number must not have a decimal point and the limits are inclusive, i.e. the lower and upper limit are allowed.

Decimal numbers

Turn this on and enter the Lower and Upper limit of decimal number that is expected for the field. A decimal number can optionally include a decimal point and the limits are inclusive and the limits are inclusive, i.e. the lower and upper limit are allowed.

Valid text list

Turn this on and enter the list of expected letters, codes, or words. Each possible piece of text is separated from the others by commas. For example A,B,C,D,E only allows these letters to be entered. There must no additional spaces in the list after each comma or before each text item.

Compared to Old SM-Reports there are fewer properties to set. SM-Reports Online has been improved by simplifying the required properties by automatically determining how each field is to be used.
